High Altitude Observatory

A solar physics observatory and research institute in Colorado, USA. It was founded in 1940 under the auspices of Harvard College Observatory and is now a division of the National Center for Atmospheric Research. Solar experiments are also located at other sites and on satellites. The research is particularly concerned with variations in the Sun and their possible terrestrial consequences.
